Before I started sharing this blog on different social media sites, I first told one of my friends about it. He was a bit curious why I started to blog since he knows that writing was never my forte’. True enough, I was a nursing graduate. I am not a writer. I never took writing lessons when I was younger, I am not that good with English, and I never even thought about documenting things before.
However, as I started to venture into entrepreneurship when I was 23, I then realized that it might be good for me to document my learnings and experience about it to remind me about how my outlook in life is for the past years. Thus, I started to blog.
For the past few months of writing, I realized that there a lot of things that blogging has done and can further do for me. Here are some of its benefits.
1) My writing skills somehow improved.
When I went home to my province, I saw one of the essays that I made in college. If I have poor writing skills right now, Oh boy! I just can’t stop laughing at how much worse my grammar is back then. What’s good about blogging is that I don’t need to be a grammar expert to write and blog.
In fact! I believe that blogging was able to improve my writing skills. I do hope that as I continue to blog, my writing skills would further improve.
2) I became more computer literate.
I remember back in school, I would only use the internet to copy-paste my assignments and projects from the most popular websites such as “Wikipedia”. If not, I just use the computer to play video games or watch movies.
As I put up this blog, I started to know more about creating a website. I learned about HTML coding and how to navigate properly on the internet. Being a nurse without much computer background, blogging allowed me to become more computer literate.
3) I learned more.
In order to write I need to read more about my chosen niche. I realized then that as I read more, I learn more. I guess that is one of the best benefits of becoming a blogger.
Stephen King once said, “If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.”
I was never good at expressing myself. Simply put, I am the shy type. I remember the time when I need to stand and talk in front of people in school and at work. I would usually stutter no matter how hard I practice my speech. As a result, I am not able to express and deliver what I truly wanted to say.
Blogging has helped to express myself even more. Since all of my thoughts while I write are documented, I am to express them better. As a bonus, I would also receive positive feedback from my readers.
5) I am able to create a better network.
I was 23 when I learned about entrepreneurship and personal finance. I am a nurse. I worked in a BPO company before. At this age, in my profession, and in my corporate job, it was hard for me to find someone talk about the topics that I started to love.
As I started to read blogs about my chosen niche, I started to know and meet more people who have the same interest. I then realized that thru blogging, my network of individuals with the same interest as myself is also growing.
6) The probability of becoming an expert.
I am not an expert about personal finance and entrepreneurship. Truth be told, I am still a newbie about the said topic and I know that I need to learn and experience more to become successful. However, as I mentioned on #3, I learn more about my chosen topic as I read.
Since I write what I read, there are times when some of my readers would thank me and say that they learned and were inspired by my articles(one of the perks of being a blogger). I then realized that with enough passion, purpose, focus and persistence, “that” expert status on my chosen niche’ could eventually become a reality.
7) I became more creative.
As I started this blogsite, I never even imagined what it would eventually look like. I know that there are a lot of sites better than this, but for me, being able to put up this site is a big accomplishment with regards to creativity.
Also, I just realized that as I blog, my creativity towards writing improves. There are times wherein I can’t stop thinking and different ideas about what to write keep popping up in my head. I guess my brain started to become more creative as I began blogging.
I remember myself as a total pessimist when I was younger. Not being able to take the course that I want in college and eventually working in a field that is not really my interest, I would usually blame everything on bad luck and regret the decisions that I made in the past.
Thankfully, these things changed when I learned about entrepreneurship. However, being an entrepreneur can also be stressful. There are times that I would eventually make wrong decisions and have financial losses. Negative thoughts would cross my mind and I start to regret why I even decided venture into this field.
That is where blogging becomes a blessing for me. All I need to do I read some of my old post and it would remind me of my positive thoughts and beliefs why I left the corporate world and venture into entrepreneurship. My mindset would eventually change from negative to positive.
9) My memory improved.
As I mentioned above. I started this blog to document all my learnings and experience about entrepreneurship and personal finance. Blogging has greatly improved my memory especially about my chosen niche. What’s good about this is that I tend to look more intelligent. Since I write my experiences, I tend to remember more. I am able to share more stories to my friends!
10) Blogging has become a tool for self discovery.
Blogging has become not only a way for me to express myself. It is also a self fulfillment that has become a path towards self discovery. I realized the things that work for me and what doesn’t. I write topics that gives pride and joy to my soul.
I just know that blogging has changed me and I know that it can also change others to become better both in the physical and in the internet world.
Blogging is a way for people to make a difference and eventually leave a legacy. With passion for writing, persistence, active participation, and interaction with others. You’ll be surprised and amazed where your simple ideas in your blog can take you.
