Which Do You Insure? The Golden Egg Or The Goose That Lays the Golden Egg?

If you have a Goose which lays a golden egg, which will you insure? Is it the goose or the golden egg? I’m sure most of us if not all will say “I will insure the goose”. Primarily because it is the one that lays the golden egg.

As we relate this in our daily lives, the golden eggs are actually our assets and liabilities such as a car, a house, our businesses and the like. The goose on the other hand is actually us. If you would think about it this way, what actually happens in real life is we first insure the golden eggs rather than the goose.

So today, I want to introduce a video that talks about Health and Accident insurance – – insurance to protect the goose from untimely illness and accidents.

  • That’s a pretty awesome metaphor, Jeypi! When I first read the title, I was sure I’d answer the goose as well. And it’s true, in life we end up taking care of the things we have rather than taking care of ourselves first. Very insightful post, thank you for the reminder.

Nice comparison! I have never thought about that using those metaphors. I have both insured so I have guarantee that both the golden egg and the goose are safe. 🙂

This is a good take on investing and the decisions we make when it comes to managing our finances. When I started earning, the first thing I invested was a retirement plan. Then I got an insurance. Then I went into other investments as well. I agree that we have to take care of ourselves first. Sometimes, we join the rat race, exhausting ourselves to accumulate wealth then we end up spending more to cure our broken selves. Nice post!

  • I think what most people forget is how to manage their wealth! This is so relevant right now 😀

I would choose of course the goose. I am considering getting an insurance, thanks for sharing this info about SunLife.

  • I submitted a request for a sample proposal! Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful analogy! People oftentimes tend to forget to invest in themselves, too. I’m glad there are insurance companies willing to protect the people’s interest. But I still believe that it would be ideal if the government can be held more accountable for it. 🙂

  • I know a lot of people don’t think about it this way. We have both life and health insurance because we need it. I don’t want to leave my family in a bind when I die and health care is very expensive.

  • The goose should really be the one insured. I think sometimes we tend to forget that assets do come and go but out abilities is what can make those assets grow and prosper.

Good pointers! I liked the analogy of the goose and the golden egg. We all need health and accident insurance for ourselves and loved ones.

Haha… smart move… People who have trouble with their finances should try to talk to you!

  • Ha! I never thought about it like that. We are the goose! It is definitely a good idea to get insurance. We have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of other things.

  • Thanks for sharing. I’d definitely go for the goose that lays the golden egg…and see how I can get another goose that can do the same exact thing. Lol Great post!

  • Pushkal Pandey

Great! The anaology made between goose and us is really great. And I believe with the goose the eggs should also get insured.lol.thanks for sharing:)

  • Very true. Many a times we forget about accident insurance and life insurance. Its infact the most important of them all!

  • dmhyf

Agree. As much as we do not like talking about insurance or talking to insurance agents, we really need to be prepared for the eventuality that the breadwinner can die or be disabled.

We have to insure the one who lay the golden egg. I think everyone of us need insurance policy

  • Interesting way of educating people on financial issues, all the best to the newbies out there who are still trying to cope with their savings.

  • TweenselMom

It will always be the goose. Everyone should have an insurance but this is easier said than done.

  • Pal Raine

My father is a SunlifeGrepa Life Policy Holder and I’m proud to say that I am a Sunlife Insured too!

  • I would insure the goose is safe. Yeah, I have insurance that my parents bought me since young. I am sure I will do the same for my kids in future

  • Earth’s Attractions

It’s always a great idea to have a health and even a life insurance. We should always pay attention to the best offer so that we could actually pay it throughout the years:) Lovely metaphore
