3 Types Of Relationships That Make You A Better Person

Hi there! You might have visited this page as you thought that this post will be about intimate relationships or love life. Sad to say bro; this isn’t about those types of relationships. Rather, this post will discuss about the different types of relationships that would allow you to grow and stretch in your personal life and make you a better person.

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Have you ever heard about this famous quote by Jim Rohn? Do you agree with it? Truth be told, I wasn’t really paying attention about this quote before. Mainly because I thought that I need to spend equal time to everyone and not choose people to hang out with. Then I got to realize, whenever I spend time with people who have a different outlook or belief than mine; I tend to go wonder and loose track of my goals. I’m not saying that they’re bad influences, they are just not able to help me reach my dreams.

The people around us can affect our outlook, beliefs, confidence and our mindset. That’s why it’s absolutely important to be aware of the different types of relationships that will change our lives. Whom shall I hang out with? Whom shall I approach? Whom shall I establish a relationship with then? These are just some the questions that I hope that I can answer in this post.

I believe there are actually 3 kinds of relationship that we need to establish;

  • A Mentor

You know what a mentor is. He’s the person who is exactly at the position that you want to achieve. He’s that dude who teaches you all sorts of things related to your dream. You may be reading his articles, watching his videos or even meeting him in person once in a while to ask for ideas and tips. He can be your teacher, coach, trainer and even your very own business partner.

A mentor is someone who lights and shows the path. Having a mentor is very vital in your journey to success. Why? Because he can guide you. He can teach you how to avoid making mistakes. He can be a source of inspiration, proper guidance. He can give you a chance to learn and a chance to grow.

People who don’t like having mentors are simply people with egos as large as the sun. They simply have to be the center of attention which is not good at all. Be humble enough to seek the advice of others. We never always know or master it all. There’s always someone out there who’s doing better than us.

  • A Role Model

You might be thinking that a role model is similar to a mentor. Well, in a way they are, but at the same time, they aren’t. A role model is usually someone who is not close to you. A role model is a person whom you don’t usually meet in life. They are those who are already at the top of their chosen field. Hence, their time is more valuable than any other. Think about of a basketball game for example. Your mentor is your coach while your role model could be famous athletes such as Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. They are the types of people whom you look up to, learn from, and model after.

Most often, a role model is a person who has achieved great heights in his or her chosen field.

  • Fellow Travelers

Traveling alone can be fun as it allows you to think and reflect about yourself. However, admit it or not, it’s more fun traveling with other people. This goes the same for your venture towards your personal and career goals.

You need people who are on the same journey as you. There are people out there just like you who have the same struggles. Honestly, I believe there’s no better feeling than knowing that you’re not alone on your journey. Communicating with these is a great way to stay positive, get support and move past challenges. You can talk to them, inspire and push each other to go further.

These people may still be on the same boat as you; but in the end, they are the ones who’ll be there when you need them the most. They will be your support group! 🙂

And so that’s it! Do you have a mentor? A role model? Do you have relationships with people who are on the same journey as you? Go out now! Start searching for these people. In the end, You’ll realize that establishing a relationship with these people is a great step towards achieving your goal.

“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
